For the past 11 years WM People has presented the Top Employer Awards (formerly under the flagship brand workingmums.co.uk), and each year have followed the awards by presenting an in-depth analysis of the winners of the awards including real-life case studies, to share far and wide in order to promote best practice in the areas of flexible working, inclusion and diversity, gender equality and family support.

This year, we decided to shake our awards up to reflect the main challenges of the pandemic year, putting the focus on well being, engagement, diversity and inclusion in a year which has highlighted more than ever the importance of positive action on race, gender, ability, age and social disadvantage at work.

We know that many teams and individuals have gone above and beyond in the way they have supported their employees through so much uncertainty. From hand delivering laptops to setting up mental health champions, online networking, holiday activities and supporting line managers to help their teams through countless upheavals and anxiety, they have truly pulled out all the stops and that deserves to be recognised and celebrated.

Sharing best practice

This year’s best practice report, sponsored by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, focuses on how our Top Employer Award winners have approached the pandemic and sought to support their employees.

Many teams and individuals have gone above and beyond in the way they have supported their employees through so much uncertainty. From hand delivering laptops to setting up mental health champions, online networking, holiday activities and supporting line managers to help their teams through countless upheavals and anxiety, they have truly pulled out all the stops and that deserves to be recognised and celebrated.

The overall winner was McDonald’s who also won the mental health category. Other winners include IBM UK for Diversity & Inclusion, PwC for Flexible Working, Teach First for Family Support, Sky Betting & Gaming for Employee Engagement and UBS for Line Manager Support.

We hope you will find in the case studies and interviews in this year’s Best Practice Report inspirational, and are able to take away practical ideas for how to tackle the next months ahead as we emerge from the pandemic with a greater commitment to diversity and inclusion and to ‘building back better’.
